Make a small card to attach to your bag, case or backpack. If someone finds it, they scan the QR code and reach you, either through an individual Lost & Found page or straight from your saved contact details. With the link option no personal data appears on the card at all. The contact-details option instead encodes your name, phone and email in the QR code, where a scanner can read them.
Important: make the QR code reach you
Before you print, point the QR code at a route that reaches you. If you keep the address filled in here by default, any message a finder sends will reach the owner of this site, who then has no way to tell whose item it belongs to. You have three options:
- Use your own URL, for example your own contact form or page.
- Use your own contact details, encoded directly in the QR code.
- Get in touch with me, and I will set up your own contact form on this site.
How to use it
- Choose what the QR code should carry: a link to this page, or your contact details encoded as a digital business card.
- Select the languages for the card text. English, Spanish and French are on by default.
- Pick the card size and how many copies you want per sheet.
- Click Print. In the print dialog, turn on Background graphics so the red prints.
- Cut out, laminate, and attach the card. A MOLLE panel or a luggage tag holder works well.
A note on privacy
With the link option, a finder only ever reaches the contact form on this page, so your phone number and email stay private. With the contact-details option, those details are encoded directly in the QR code and can be read by anyone who scans it. Choose whichever fits the item and the trip.
